Manchester United player Anthony denied the accusations of domestic violence in a statement Posted on social media Wednesday.
ESPN Brazil confirmed earlier this week that Anthony’s ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, filed a police report against him earlier this month, alleging four incidents of domestic violence, physical injury and threats.
The complaint was filed at the Fifth Women’s Police Station, in the Tatuapé district of São Paulo. The investigation is underway.
Manchester United did not comment on the accusations.
Anthony released the statement following allegations made by a 22-year-old woman in Brazil earlier this month.
Antonius’ statement read: “To friends, fans and followers. For you, after giving testimony at the police station where my name is being investigated, I wanted to speak out, for the first time, because I was falsely accused of assault.”
“I kept silent until now so that nothing would interfere with the investigation process, but all these days my family and I suffered in silence.
“Although I was born and brought up in an extremely needy community, I have never encountered a situation similar to this, where a false accusation of aggression led to prior and unfair public judgment on the part of some.
“After the investigation is closed, my innocence will be proven, and it will be assured that justice will prevail and that the damage done to my image in the first place will be left in the past. Thank you for the countless messages of support I have received at this very difficult time.”
Anthony, 23, joined United from Ajax in 2022 in a deal worth £85m ($107.1m). He played 44 times in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring eight goals.
His campaign was cut short after he suffered an ankle injury, and he missed the FA cup The final defeat of Manchester City.
