Jerry Wong’s three biggest poker tournament results all came in No Limit Hold’em, including the $1.1 payday he received for an eighth-place finish in 2016 World Series of Poker The main event. However, in recent years, Wong has had a lot of success on the mixed streets, including his first win WSOP Bracelet at last year’s Jazz Championship event.
Wong’s latest title sees him top in a tough field with 47 starts in 2024 PokerGO Mixed Games Tour $10,200 mixed event. He earned $164,500 as the last player standing in the tournament, which included a badoji rotation, a seven-to-seven three-way draw, and an ace-to-five three-way draw from the low ball. He now has approximately $6.2 million in career tournament earnings after this latest victory.
This was Wong’s third place finish on the final table of the year, after finishing seventh in the tournament WSOP Circuit A high-performance event in Florida and fifth in the $10,200 HORSE race earlier in the series. He now sits in the top 300 in 2024 Card player Player of the Year race presented by World poker.
Two of those degrees qualify for Bgt points as well, moving him up to 23rd in that High-stakes central race. His 212 points this week put him third in the Series’ MVP standings.
Wong came into the final day of this even as the chip leader with only four competitors remaining. Seven players cashed in, with three of them exiting after the bubble burst late on the first day. The trio that cashed in but did not move on to day two were Philipp Sternheimer (7th – $18,800), Hal Rothholz (6th – $28,200), and Felipe Ramos (5th – $37,600).
Wong had more than double the number of chips as his closest competitor when the cards returned to the air for the second in-game day Bookergo studio in ARIA Las vegas resort and casino. Six-time bracelet winner John Hennigan (fourth – $49,350) was first to fall when his 9-6-3-2 draw with one pull from the left couldn’t beat Wong’s 10-5-4-3-2 in draw-seven play. It was his fourth money at the festival, including a win in the $5,100 eight-game event. With total earnings of $256,900 to date, Hennigan sits at the top of the series standings heading into the final four events.
The same game was claimed by Scott Lake. His chips came in before the final tie at 9-6-5-3-2. Wong equalized with a goal and a 7-6-4-3-2 formation to seal the win, sending Lake home with $68,150 for his efforts.
Wong entered heads-up play where Max Hoffman had a better-than-chip advantage of 2:1. He extended that lead even further before the final hand came during a round of an ace-to-five. The final chips came in before a tie for third with Wong holding 8-6-3-2-A. Hoffman was drawing 6-5-3-A. He drew a queen and was eliminated in second place ($103,400). This was his third money in the series. He now trails only Hennigan in the Festival points race.
