Martin Rouse topped the field in the mini-main event at World Series of Poker Commission Championship series hosted by Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. The jackpot was $334,380, and Rouse earned his first gold bracelet with his second tournament win. His total earnings now stand at nearly $1.4 million.
“Much better because people can see this. I was sitting on my couch in my underwear when I won it, so this is much better,” Rouse told reporters after his big win live. “I did the math two days ago and realized that if “If I didn’t lose the last hand in the tournament, I’ll do well and I didn’t lose the last hand I played.”
The $1,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament saw an entry of 2,234 runners create a prize pool of $2,234,000 to exceed the $1 million guarantee. The top 335 players took home prize money worth at least $1,700.
After four kickoff trips and one day of play, there are still 23 players in the hunt for the title on the final day of play. Previous bracelet winners who have made significant progress in this event are Renjie Mao (32), Yueqi Zhou (49), Anthony Zeno (67), Will Jaffe (74), Chris Brewer (85), and Weiran Bo (93).
Rouse was in the middle of the pack when the final table started at around 4:30pm local time, and things moved quickly for the start of the final table. The top three players were down within 20 minutes, with Josef Sneberg scoring all the putts to take a huge chip lead.
Rouse scored a massive double during four-handed play at Sneberg’s expense, and took control of the chip lead shortly after. Rouse then took on the task of eliminating his opponents as he eliminated Jackson Santos at #4 and Michael Acevedo at #3. That gave Raus 63.6 million at the start of singles play versus the 48.1 million that Snejberg got.
Rouse maintained his upward momentum throughout the final, winning several bets to extend his chip lead heading into the final hand of the tournament. That hand saw Snejberg push the Preflop with the Q8but Raus saw him holding AC. The final plate of the tournament was distributed to AC683, and Rouse held the lead throughout the hand to eliminate Sneeberg into second place. He pocketed $194,800 for his second-place finish, earning the poker player from the Czech Republic over $1.76 million.
