Annual 54 World Series of Poker It officially kicked off Tuesday with the traditional $500 casino employee event, open only to those in the gambling industry.
The usual “shuffle and deal” ad has been delivered before WSOP Vice President and Tournament Director Jacques Eiffel, who led the players in the room in a moment of silence over the recently departed Doyle Bronson.
Bronson, 10 times WSOP The bracelet winner, who was present at the first summer series in 1970, passed away earlier this month at the age of 89.
“We also get another WSOP In action, we were reminded of how indebted we were to the massive impact Doyle had on my family WSOP And poker itself,” Eiffel said. “Doyle was the sport’s biggest ambassador who helped bring poker into the mainstream. He is a legend we have been privileged to work with for over 50 years. We are very indebted to Doyle and look forward to setting records this summer as a special tribute to his legacy.”

Brunson was buried in a private funeral in late May, however his son and fellow Poker Hall of Famer Todd Brunson announced on Twitter that “there will be a celebration of life during WSOP which we all welcome.”
This is the second year that WSOP It will take place on the Las Vegas Strip, with events split between the Paris Casino and the new Horseshoe Casino.
Tournament organizers hope this will be the largest turnout in the series’ history, with 95 live events taking place between May 30 and July 18.
