Bribe the zoo
Toh Sai Keong, an employee of Shin Yeong Construction, has pleaded guilty to ten counts of bribery related to the Singapore Zoo. He also admitted to spending a significant portion of his deductible of S$10,000 to S$20,000 (US$7,291 to US$14,582) on gambling and casino holidays.
114 cases and bribery worth approximately S$760,000 (US$554,443)
Toh, 57, received a 26-month prison sentence for his role in the long-running bribery scheme that involved 114 cases and bribes worth about S$760,000 (US$554,443).
She also worked with Barry Chong Peng Wee, Facilities Manager at Singapore Zoo, to ensure that Shin Yong Construction secured construction contracts from the zoo’s parent company Wildlife Reserves Singapore.
Contracts worth $6.6 million
Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau alleges that as a result of these bribes, Shin Young Construction received contracts worth S$9 million (US$6.6 million). Contracts were also given inflated prices.
Chong was the main recipient of the bribe money, with Too receiving a small share as he acted as an intermediary. Chong will review the construction contracts and then inform Too of the price for contract approval.
