Players and management of Rangers Football Club in Scotland will participate in educational gambling workshops designed to help protect players and staff.
EPIC Risk Management will host the events, which will be funded by club sponsor Kindred. The workshops aim to help educate players and management about the dangers of gambling that many have faced in the past.
Former players will also take part in talking about their gambling experiences. It is hoped that the independent sessions will create a healthy relationship between football and gambling. The Ranger’s B team and women’s team will also participate. Selected academy teams will have separate events.
They go beyond “discussing the rule book and adding that essential element of association.”
Karim Virani, the club’s commercial director, said it was important to have these discussions to help protect players, adding that sessions led by former players were great because they went beyond “discussing the rule book and adding that essential element of engagement”.
