Authorities in Indonesia are calling on Elon Musk’s company X to help combat gambling advertising. The country’s Ministry of Communications and Information wants a simpler process to automatically detect and remove any gambling-related content.
In the current system, the ministry has to issue a removal notice manually, which is time-consuming. X called for creating a tool that automates everything.
The ministry removed 810,785 advertisements related to online gambling last year
The ministry removed 810,785 online gambling-related ads last year across multiple online channels, nearly four times 2022’s total. X had already warned in January about this issue and has worked with Meta regarding similar conflicts.
Online gambling is currently illegal in Indonesia; People caught operating the platforms face up to ten years in prison and significant financial penalties.
