A High Court judge in Australia has sentenced a father-of-three to 10 years in prison for an unprovoked, fatal attack on a Crown Casino patron in Melbourne.
Tyson Armstrong learned of his fate on Friday for the brutal attack that took place in March of last year. The 28-year-old was walking into Crown Casino Melbourne with his girlfriend when he ran into Luke Francis, It is referred to in the local media as a “sweetie trade”.
According to accounts of the incident heard in court, Francis tried to get away from Armstrong despite being taunted. However, Armstrong grabbed the 29-year-old victim from behind before punching him in the face twice, once with a closed fist and then with an open hand.

Despite the best efforts of his girlfriend, casino staff, and paramedics, Francis died in hospital a few days later after his family turned off his life support. The bleeding in his brain proved too severe to allow him any chance of recovery.
Speaking in court when delivering his ruling on Friday, Supreme Court Justice Andrew Tenney deemed Armstrong a “violent, drunken thug.” He will be eligible for parole after eight years.
