Huddersfield striker Kian Harratt has been banned for four months for breaching FA betting rules.
Harratt reportedly placed 484 bets on football from June 2020 to June 2023, including bets on his team’s matches. He was fined £3,200 ($4,049) in addition to a ban.
Some bets were ‘more problematic than others’
Harratt said in a statement that some bets were “more problematic than others” because they involved his team. He also admitted that he had bet on his team’s loss, adding: “Of the 44 such bets I placed, 36 of them involved Huddersfield.”
Nine of those 36 bets were for Huddersfield to lose. Harat confirmed that he did not participate with the team during those matches, as he was either loaned to another club or training elsewhere.
Confronting the FA, Harratt explained that his gambling began on his 18th birthday when he opened an online betting account. He initially bet on horse racing, but eventually moved on to football. According to Harratt, gambling was a way for him to get the same “buzz” he had when competing on the field. When football failed to deliver, his gambling activities increased.
Huddersfield said in a statement that they support Harratt, who is recovering from hamstring surgery.
