The Curaçao Gaming Control Board (GCB) is extending the deadline for licensing applications after a number of operators failed to submit high-quality applications. The one-month extension gives companies until April 30 to meet the necessary standards, and the Gulf Central Bank has warned that it will not grant any further extension.
Some applications were missing important information regarding the three forms and related documents, which would have led to a delay in processing the applications. The regulatory body will continue to review the applications it has received since the online application portal opened in November.
Curaçao is improving the way it manages operators, no longer allowing master license holders to issue sublicenses as they please. The latter now needs to obtain its own approval from the regulator.
Raising compliance standards to modern-day levels
All successful applicants will receive a direct license under the current regulatory regime, which will be transferred to the new framework once it comes into force. One of the goals behind this campaign is to raise compliance standards to modern-day levels and prevent nefarious companies from fraudulently claiming to hold a Curacao license.
