Record-breaking win
Famous sports bookmaker Jim “Matris Mac” McKingville won a record $75 million bet on the Houston Astros to win the MLB World Championship.
Bet $10 Million on Your Loved Astros to Win the World Championship
The furniture store owner has now carved his place in history by earning the largest official sports betting payout ever. Earlier in the season, he bet a total of $10 million in a series of bets on his beloved Astros to win the World Championship with average odds of +750. They took the crown on Saturday night by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 to win the series from four games to two.
A windy road to victory
Mac’s bet seemed fairly safe during qualifying. The Astros swept their first two series against the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees to win the MLS flag. They were two-to-one behind in the World Championships, but took the next three games to seal it. At no time did they face disqualification.
The moment Astros fans will remember forever was when Jordan Alvarez lost 1-0 in the sixth game of Game Six, packing Homer’s 450-foot length and three runs into the center field to give his side the forever lead. They ran again for a good measure before sprinting toward victory. He even casts a shadow over Houston’s non-hitting co-workers by casting him in Game 4, the second non-batting player in World Series history.
The previous World Series no-hitter was actually a perfect game, thrown by Don Larsen of the Yankees in Game 5 of the 1956 Fall Classic. Roy Halladay is the only other player not to strike in the playoffs, as he did so for the Phillies against the Cincinnati Reds in the 2010 National League Series.
This is the franchise’s second global title, capping what has been dominant in the past several years. The team achieved the world championship in four out of six seasons, winning their first circuit in 2017.
It wasn’t all rosy for Matrice Mack as the world championships progressed, despite the results. A video of an incident after Game 4 went viral when the series was linked with two wins each. The sports bookmaker is clearly on edge with his bet hanging in the balance, and had a swear-filled argument with a drunk Phillies fan outside Citizens Bank Park.
High stakes bet
Mattress Mack is no stranger to winning big money with sports betting. He successfully bet the Kansas Jayhawks to win the NCAA Championship earlier in the year, winning $10.4 million in the process. The 71-year-old placed the biggest mobile bet ever in this year’s Super Bowl, but ended up losing his $4.5 million stake when the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals.
Customers who spent at least $3000 in his store to get free mattresses
His previous bets on the Astros to win the World Championship were not good. He lost $11.6 million in 2019 when the team defeated the Washington National Astros for the World Championship. Then a $3.5 million bet didn’t work out last year when the Atlanta Braves beat the Astros in six games.
A wealthy businessman usually runs a promotion in his furniture store when he places big bets. This is also the case with his latest bet on the Astros. Customers who spent at least $3,000 on mattresses during the promotional period will now receive refunds as a result of the record-breaking bet.
