A Michigan man’s head hasn’t stopped spinning since he won the $5.42 million Lotto 47 jackpot from the Michigan lottery.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the winning Lotto 47 number on September 28 to win the jackpot: 02-05-14-30-32-42. He bought his winning ticket online.
Michigan is one of the few states that have online lottery gambling. It is part of a smaller group of countries that also gamble online.
“I love playing online and I had about $280 in my account from my last win,” the 69-year-old said. “I haven’t played the game in a while, so I decided to buy 15 tickets.
“The next day, I was browsing my email and I had a message from the lottery saying I won a prize, but it didn’t say how much. I logged into my account online, and when I saw my jackpot win, my head started spinning and didn’t stop!”
The win marks the second largest prize ever won online from the Michigan Lottery. The record for the largest prize won on the Internet is $5.75 million. In February 2021 and March 2021, two players earned $1,000 per day for life playing Lucky For Life online. Each player chose to receive their prize as a one-time lump sum of $5.75 million, according to officials.
Under Michigan law, lottery winners can remain anonymous.
The $5.42 million winner recently visited the lottery headquarters to claim the jackpot. He chose to receive his award as a one-time payment of approximately $3.8 million rather than 30 annual payments for the full amount.
“We certainly haven’t struggled financially, but the jackpot means we won’t have to worry about money in our retirement,” the player said.
The big win is the sixth time that the Lotto 47 jackpot has been won this year.
Each Lotto 47 game is only $1. Players choose six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win the jackpot starting at $1 million and growing until someone wins it.
