It appears that FOX Bet’s latest action in New Jersey was violating the state’s casino oversight law, for which DGE fined it $80,000. [Image: Shutterstock.com]
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) left departing sports betting licensee FOX Bet something to remember, an $80,000 fine. The penalty comes for accepting bets on NCAA games dating from February 2021 to January 2022.
The final poke in the eyes of parent brands Fox and Flutter
The New Jersey penalty is a final blow in the eye of parent brands Fox and Flutter Entertainment, as FOX Bet is already scheduled to go offline in New Jersey on August 31. The two brands, which endured a toxic partnership, agreed in July to close FOX Bet and part ways.
In New Jersey, the sportsbook recognized betting on 2021 college games, including the Rutgers University-Northwestern University matchup. The Monmouth University game was also tagged by DGE that same year. The other two FOX Bet violations were for Fairleigh Dickinson and Seton Hall University games.
For FOX Bet that was about to leave, these breaches, DGE CEO David Reebok said, amounted to a violation of the New Jersey casino surveillance law.
