Phil Hellmuth has had quite a few memorable entrances to World Series of Poker Main event, try again on Thursday afternoon in Las Vegas.
In typical Hellmuth fashion, the 16-time winner was late to the tournament, starting on day 2. With an announcement from tournament directors Jacques Eiffel and John Williams. Imperial march Helmuth played through the speakers, and entered the room dressed as Darth Vader.
Perhaps some were annoyed by the distraction of the Helmuth entrance, or perhaps it was the presence of the dark side, but either way, Helmuth was booed as he sat down.
Hellmouth had bought the outfit the day before, and had also thought of Superman, before settling on Darth Vader. He decided to wear his one-shoulder robe, just as he would his jacket, and even made his own lightsaber noise.

Vader is, of course, a villain in star Wars Universe. But Helmuth might know more about the good man trapped under the suit. Like Vader, seeing Hellmuth in the tunnel sometimes got him into trouble.
He’s not the first to wear a costume this summer. For the second year in a row, Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates won a prize of $50,000 Poker Players Championship disguised. Last year he won an anime character from Dragon ball Z And that year he went on as macho Randy Savage. (Of course, the series was held last year during Halloween.)
Unfortunately for Hellmuth, the dark side failed to bring him any luck. He was forced to change when he realized he couldn’t actually see his cards through his mask.
