Ruby Rose, Drusky and PricePicks Controversy
The Internet went into hysterics when rapper Ruby Rose and artist Drusky each won $1 million on AwardPicks after betting on Super Bowl LVIII.
Part of a promotion that guarantees a share of $1 million in bonus bets
Rose and Druski, whose real name is Drew Desbordes, are official partners of AwardPicks. They were part of a promotion that guaranteed a share of $1 million in bonus bets to every customer who redeemed their betting slip if their selections were successful.
After the dust settled and the Kansas City Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in five years, Rose and Desbordes’ gaffes were labeled winners. But, as is often the case when it comes to celebrities and major events, Internet sleuths had questions.
Winning bet
Rose became an AwardPicks partner in 2023, and has since tweeted several screenshots of her betting slips, usually before the day’s matches are played. She shared her Super Bowl betting slip, a $100,000 Power Play, that could win her $1 million.
Her choices included:
- Marquez Valdes-Scantling had over 18.5 yards receiving
- Isiah Pacheco 16+ rushing attempts
- Harrison Butker made over 1.5 field goals
- Joan Jennings over 3.5 fantasy points
If the bet is successful, she will win a $1 million prize and PricePicks will split $1 million in additional bets among all customers who canceled her coupon (or made the same selections).
Lo and behold, all four of Rose’s picks were hits (three of them by the smallest of margins). She posted a photo of her winning slip with the caption, “Scroll up… all it takes is faith.”
The official AwardPicks
They also confirmed that everyone who tracked her plays will receive their share of the $1 million in bonus bets by noon Eastern time on Monday.
Deception afoot?
The advent of sports betting has opened many doors but has also created many skeptics.
Many thought something was fishy when Rose and Druski, not known for their sports betting expertise, won $1 million, especially since Druski’s picks were similar to Rose’s but far off the beaten path as far as popular picks went.
Druski’s picks, also in the $100,000 Four-Pick Power Play, include:
- Deebo Samuel under 16.5 yards
- Noah Gray over 1.5 receptions
- Harrison Butker made over 1.5 field goals
- Isiah Pacheco 16+ rushing attempts
Suspicion also arose after many noticed that Rose’s account, as seen in the video showing her reaction to her big win, was filled with nearly $40,000 in free bets.
Sports betting sites and gambling platforms have slowly gravitated towards influencer marketing, or, as many believe, paying famous personalities to support their platform, and providing them with credits to place their bets.
The use of influencers to promote gambling services remains a controversial topic.
AwardPicks made good on its promise and awarded everyone who tracked down Rose and Desbordes coupons an equal split of the $1 million prize pool.
