Stephen Song is only 28 years old, but he has already achieved several tremendous accomplishments on the live tournament circuit. Lee Rzentkowski held the lead until the final day, with Song finishing second among the five remaining competitors. Song scored the first knockout, with his pocket queens holding out against J-9 fit Svetlozar Momchilov (5th – $46,748). Rzentkowski also won a large total of pocket queens. Overpair remained favorite against Timothy Mulroy’s Pocket Fives (4th – $62,039).
Two-time bracelet winner Tom Koral’s run came to an end in the event when J-10 couldn’t come from behind against the Rzentkowski Kings. Coral failed to draw straight open, but Rzentkowski improved to the river-filled Kings to book the bet. Corral earned $83,365 as the third-place finisher, increasing his lifetime earnings to nearly $2.8 million in the process.
The heads-up game began with Song getting 15,180,000 to Rzentkowski’s 10,900,000. Rzentkowski managed to work his way into the lead for a while, but Song soon regained control. The final hand saw all the chips come to 7625K Painting with song bearing 98 For nine consecutive highs, which beat 62 A couple of Rzentkowski.
