Big win
Lake Manitoba First Nation President Cornell McClain hit a $1.4 million jackpot while playing a slot machine at a casino in Minnesota. Monday’s big win came during his trip to Shooting Star Casino. McClain initially thought he had won $13,000 when he hit the jackpot.
A passerby told him he had already won over $13,000
Speaking to local media on Tuesday, McClain explained how a passerby told him he had in fact won more than $13,000, a fact soon confirmed by a casino employee.
McClain’s wife wasn’t by his side when he hit the jackpot, but she quickly arrived on the scene after hearing all the commotion. Speaking of his wife’s reaction to the win, McClain said, “I think she was more excited than I was.”
Putting the gains to good use
Shooting Star Casino photographed McClain and his wife with a large check and posted the photo to their Facebook page. It would take about ten days for the money to reach McClain’s account, but he was already thinking about how to use it gains.
In addition to being President of the Lake Manitoba First Nation, McClain is also Vice President of the Manitoba Association of Chiefs.
He explained that they were saving money to buy a house that could now become a reality. While he said he didn’t grow up with much of a McLean, he can now help change the lives of the people around him. The couple has five children and 16 grandchildren, as they are the legal guardians of two of the grandchildren.
A lucky feeling is in the air
McClain added that his family would say he was “a very lucky guy”. He is not the only person who has hit the casino jackpot in recent weeks. Four different people have been able to win six figure amounts at the same Las Vegas Strip casino in recent days.
The famous Caesars Palace was the site of the wins, with two people winning $100,000 jackpots over the weekend. Since then, someone won $400,000 after hitting a royal flush on a video poker machine after a $500 bet, while another person won $103,125 on a multi-hand poker machine.
