The eastern band of the Cherokee Indians have partnered with Caesars Entertainment as part of a $650 million casino resort project in Virginia. Caesar announced the partnership on Wednesday. Development of Caesars Virginia in Danville is scheduled to begin during the week. The current plan for the resort is to be open before the end of 2024. It is expected to create thousands of jobs and be a major driver of tourism and the local economy.
More than 1,300 slot machines, 85 backgammon games and 24 electronic backgammon games
The resort will have a hotel with 500 rooms and a gaming area with more than 1,300 slot machines, 85 table games and 24 electronic backgammon games. There will also be a Caesars Sportsbook and a World Series of Poker (WSOP) poker room. Other amenities include a pool, spa, restaurants and bars, 2,500-seat live entertainment theatre, and 40,000 square feet of conference and meeting space.

When finished Casino ResortCaesars will be the property manager. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will be a partner in the joint venture and a minority investor from the region will be on board. Caesars plans to take advantage of its existing bonus program when the casino is open to attract customers to the Danville facility.
A “Valuable Partner” of the casino company for more than two decades
Caesars Entertainment COO and President Anthony Carano spoke about how the eastern band of the Cherokee Indians have been an “important partner” for the casino company for more than two decades. He also mentioned how the new casino resort will bring culinary excellence and the best entertainment talent “to the Danville area for people to enjoy.”
Richard Snead, principal chief of the Eastern Division of the Cherokee Indians, also welcomed the opportunity presented by the tribe’s joint venture. Speaking of the property’s plans, he said it would be “a first-class resort that will be defined by the luxury and service Caesars guests know and expect.”
Expand their portfolio
Caesars Entertainment is currently the largest domestic casino and entertainment company in the United States. He is the owner and manager of more than 50 properties across the country. Caesars already has a presence in Virginia with its online sportsbook, but does not have any land-based casinos in the state. Danville is one of a number of cities in Virginia that got the green light in 2020 to open a casino.
Some of the Caesars Entertainment casino brands include Caesars, Eldorado, Horseshoe, and Harrah.
The Eastern Division of the Cherokee Indians is a tribe based in North Carolina. It has two casinos in operation in its home state: Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River. The tribe also bought Caesars Southern Indiana Casino last year for $250 million from Caesars Entertainment.
