An Iowa woman was arrested after she allegedly spat on a police officer and an emergency worker while staying at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf.
On Sunday, Missy Smith of East Moline, Iowa, also allegedly kicked an emergency medical worker while screaming profanities and making threats at the hotel. Before the incident, Smith was supposed to check out of the hotel at 11 a.m., but she refused to do so.
During a search of her hotel room, police found suspected marijuana, leading to a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
“She hits and kicks the EMTs and medical staff.”
Believing her medical condition needed evaluation, hotel staff called the police. Bettendorf Fire Department EMTs also responded. When her vital signs were checked, Smith allegedly began screaming. According to the police report, she began “hitting and kicking the EMTs and medical personnel.”
As Smith was placed on a stretcher, she spat into the police officer’s eye, causing a spit hood to be placed over her face. A restraint known as a “wrap” was also placed around her legs, preventing her from kicking medical staff. The police report states that Smith was still able to spit on employees despite the spit hood.
As a result, Smith faces charges of assaulting people assisting her.
Following her arrest, Smith was booked into the Scott County Jail in Iowa and her bail was set at $5,300. It is not known whether she was taken to hospital to receive any treatment.
